Dr. Miguel Chion is currently the Associate Director of HIV Access and Community Based Services at APLA Health and the Director of the Capacity Building Department. He oversees Shared ActionHD, a national CBA program funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to provide services to health departments; and the HOPWA training for Housing Specialists in Los Angeles County. Dr. Chion has been working in the HIV/AIDS field for more than 20 years, and is an expert in prevention to diverse high risk communities. He has received his MD in Perú and his MPH in health services from UCLA. He has extensive evaluation experience throughout his carrier, and in 2004 he started the first capacity building program at APLA. Since then, Dr. Chion has successfully lead three CDC cooperative agreements for capacity building. He developed a capacity building model-framework and other tools used to provide services. He led the development of a new capacity building platform: Facilitated Planning Process, the HIV Navigation model and the PrEP Navigation Model. He has conducted presentation at USCA and the National HIV Prevention Conference in topics related to Condom Distribution as Structural Intervention, Navigation, PrEP Navigation and other prevention interventions. Under Dr. Chion lead, Shared ActionHD-APLA provided trainings and technical assistance to health departments and other organizations to increase capacity for linkage to care, retention, engagement/re-engagement, treatment adherence, HIV navigation, PrEP Navigation Behavioral Interventions and Condom Distribution.
